Kenta Nishimori has spent the last decade helping to establish several of the Inland Northwest's premiere sushi destinations before re-opening Takara, including Wave Sushi Island Grill and Syringa Japanese Café & Sushi Bar.

The Origins of Takara

Takara Japanese Cuisine and Sushi first opened its doors on Lakeside Avenue over 35 years ago under the steady hand of Sushi Master Ryuhei Tanaka of Tokyo, Japan. A unique experience, Takara quickly grew to become a cornerstone of the Coeur d’Alene dining scene.

Over the next few years, Ryuhei shared his knowledge and expertise in the traditional Japanese cuisine and culinary arts with his apprentice, Kenta Nishimori (who was born in Osaka, Japan, and immigrated as a boy).

When Ryuhei retired in 2010. Coeur d’Alene lost a gem in Takara – a cultural and culinary landmark. With no one set to carry on the legacy, its doors closed.

Thankfully the story doesn't end there. In 2021 Kenta Nishimori returned to Cd’A with a vision of Takara’s rebirth. With Ryuhei’s blessing, the dedication of his family, and loyal support of past apprentices (now sushi chefs themselves) Takara opened its doors again on New year’s Eve, 2021.

The fish is so fresh, you won't find better sushi in the Coeur d Alene area or even the PNW.

Honestly, the best sushi spot in the Inland Northwest by a landslide... the best gyoza I've had from a restaurant.
